Madden 11 Demo Impressions

The Madden 11 Demo released for PS3 and Xbox today. Go download it from the marketplace!

Here is a free indy scheme from 09 which still works pretty well!

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Alright, onto the Madden 11 Demo thoughts! (Will update the more I play, maybe stream later too)

-Have kicked off 4 times and caused 3 fumbles. Might not be anything to it, but thats an alarming rate and a really rough time to fumble in general. Also forced a Sanchez fumble and Freeney rumbled all the way home for a 98 yard scoop and score. (I just fumbled on a KR as well) Boom another one on a hitstick. (next game 2 more outta 5)

-Seeing LT do his hand behind head ball flip TD celebration was really cool!

-They fixed the chaing gang finally! The game no longer lags and you can hop right into the playbook. No matter waiting for a canned cut scene between the interracial ref couple.

-Kicker hit the post on a FG and announcers thought it went in.

-Squib looks pretty good still pretty good and you can replicate them with the meter.

-In NCAA, its nearly impossible to run a kick back past the 20 yard line. In Madden it seems very open and like the Madden Bible wiggle still works. I expect a few KR return TDs this year.

-Opening huddle sequence is cool.

-Not sure if I like the mapping of 15 plays to correlate with game situations. I think it could work but who knows what the game will take into account. With the ability to flow back into the playbook, whats the point of setting it all up and then just picking the play you want anyway?

-Need more time with defense and blitzing.

-Tip toe animations for WR on the sideline was cool to see. He didnt go for it the next time on a similar chance.

-Still hit my RB with a pass in the back of his head for the 4,000 version of Madden in a row. Cant fix everything I guess.

-Strategy Pad, hmm, lets not jump to conclusions…I HATE IT. Not because it doesn’t work, but almost because they changed it for no reason. Ex. Slide the line used to be trigger then direction. Now you have to hit left, down, left. They added an extra button in for no reason. Now I understand that once we adapt to it, it will be just about as quick but right now its messing with my mind completely.

-Aiming the pass seems to work well, using Manning its a breeze, more difficult with Sanchez as it should be!

Like Gus Johnson so far, good energy. Might get old but what announcer doesnt? Also, they saved space by cutting alot of audio and the full version will be better.

Verizon, Gatorade (with the song) and Old Spice? Okay, Okay. Charge for coins and online play and 60 dollars a disc. EA is making some bank!

-Still need to maximize the dual stick controls, I’m treating it like the old game for the most part.

- Just got a FG Legit blocked by the CPU. 47 yarder, did I angle it too low?

-No more rocking the 1-5-5 with shake due to strategy pad

Overall, the feel of the demo is great, I like the smoother NCAA style.

What are your thoughts on the demo? PS3 players are just getting it now, let me know what you think in the comments!

Game is horrible. I kept kicking it off my guys still kept running up the field with out me. also they fumble way to much now. To hard to play defense also. Darrelle revis should be rated better. Game sucks

  2. Javi says:

Yea man, the strategy pad is a bitch takes forever I really hope they get a quick fix for that maybe a madden ten control set up option. In all its pretty good so far I guess.

  3. 2ndhandsoxx says:

    i hope you’re joking man

  4. SteelersPSUfan says:

I still have to get used to the D pad. Otherwise it appears ok. We will have to wait though and see if the actual game is any different though.

  5. Pnero23 says:

When will maddenbible start again on ustream here we GOOOOOOOOOOOO! CAN’T Wait!

  6. Josh Letourneau says:

I’m with you on the strategy pad – it’s pretty cumbersome, to say the least. It’s as if they made pre-snap adjustments more difficult, perhaps due to complaints? I don’t get why they’d change something that wasn’t broken.

I used the Jets the first game (All-Pro mode) and held Manning to less than 100 yds passing while running for over 100 with Greene and passing for more than 300 with Sanchez. The second game, I used the Colts and through for 400 yards+ with Manning. For just getting started, those stats are too gaudy.

One concern I have is that the Bunch Wk Verticals glitch is alive and well, perhaps even moreso than last year. It’s like the CB and Safeties don’t react to a motioned wheel route.

The game does seem to have been slowed down . . . at least compared to NCAA which seems like a super fast game this year.

One other quick note: I didn’t appreciate it the first game around, but the Jets line is absolute beast. Of course, we all know that, but you really see it in the run game when compared to Indy.

  7. stritzo says:

I my opinion anyway they advertised it as almost the same amount of plays as when the game use to last an hour long.

I didn’t get near that many plays and i liked the game when it was an hour long way more realistic point wise when compared to the real game.

  8. Perry says:

I must say I like the game a lot, but dude I hate this fucking strategy pad crap. It is easy to use but is very accident prone. I run with the Packers only so you know I bump and run every down, now I keep blitzing my safety by accident once every possession at least. I used the D-pad and right stick to RC everything out of the air, now the D-pad is ruined. I still Rc though.

  9. Kristopherj51 says:

Couldn’t agree with you more regarding the strategy pad. It’s the same dang thing, but slower and much more confusing. I don’t understand the change. It’s like you said, different for the sake of adding something new (which it isn’t)

  10. ethan says:

i got the demo i think its great, i have played several times with both teams and the passing game is fie catch animations are good however i played on all pro and i could hardly get a run off for a positive gain until the 4th quarter despite that it is great

  11. polo22mm says:

you can turn off strategy pad its just an option. read the last paragraph!!!

How am I the only one that realizes how broken this demo is? Manning overthrows receivers every 3rd pass, the fumble rate is just flat awful, and you have next to no time for playactions. This years NCAA made it nearly impossible to run PA, and unless the D is running a non-blitz zone, you have .5 sec to pass on PA plays. Let me repeat, THE PASSING IS BROKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m going to play a game and count the passes that should of completions. Alrite, I’m back… 9 passes were either over-thrown, bounced of receivers heads, or were just plain awful passes. I consider myself a maddenite (165-40 for ’09) and I am extremely alarmed by this demo. But as long as we dish out $60+ without demanding a better product, this is what we get
