“True” Madden Ratings

Who Are The ACTUAL Best RB’s In Madden 10?
Lets see how are ratings adjustments effect the top players!
To the beginner Madden Ratings are right on point with how they perceive players to represent their virtual counterpart. To the seasoned veteran they know all to well that Reggie Bush is easily a top 5 half-back in any Madden addition, while Thomas Jones leaves little to be desired. We all covet certain players for specific ratings. A more aggressive player may need a half-back with more speed, while a more reserved approach may require a half-back with higher carry. Selfish reasons aside we all must admit undoubtedly that for the half-back position some stats matter more then others. Let’s jump right into the top 3 “true†ratings and the top 3 “filler†ratings!
Top 3 “true†ratings
1.Speed- Of all the ratings, for every position, speed is arguably the most important. In order to make a play or even have the potential to make a play a player must possess speed. It doesn’t matter if a half-back is a 36 overall, if he has 98 speed, he is going to see playing time. We all have our own special little gems when it comes to speed. My personal binky is Darren Sproles. You can’t deny his playmaking ability. In a pass heavy offense where your half-back may only get ten touches a game you need a half-back that can break it at any moment. Speed will always remain supreme!
2.Elusiveness/Trucking- Ever play with Willie Parker? Ya, he has that speed that we all love but he just seems to be missing something. He doesn’t seem to break off as much as you would expect. The problem with Parker is he can’t escape that first tackler. Once he get’s touched he goes down. Any dynamic back must possess a high rating in either one of these categories. Speed is important as it will give you the threat of the big play, but elusiveness/trucking is needed to take it to the next level. It’s also important to note that we don’t need a high rating in both categories. The reason for this is because our half-back is going to get the higher rated animation every time we attempt to use it. So a guy like Adrian Peterson would really benefit if he could move some of his trucking ability to his carry!
3.Carry- There is no doubt about it if you can’t hold onto the magic bean you are going to get a few splinters. We all love playing with Adrian Peterson but his 62 carry rating is just mind numbing. A reliable half back at the end of the game is almost as important as a back that can break the big one. How terrible is it when Michael Turner coughs it up? When a player has a high rating in carry and they still fumble it’s one of the most frustrating feelings in Madden.
Top 3 “filler†ratings
1. Awareness- What does it do? Not much. The last time awareness mattered was when the vision cone existed. I think it was a great addition to the game and gave meaning to this empty rating. If we are a franchise guy that loves to sim games then we are talking a different story. However, awareness does absolutely nothing when you are controlling the player. When you are controlling the half-back their awareness is instantly boosted (or dropped in Zfarls case) to whatever your ability is. Awareness is the ultimate “fluff†rating. It’s primarily used to increase a players overall rating when they are deficient in other categories.
2. Ball Carrier Vision- When we control the half-back we become the eyes, ears, and decision making of the ball carrier. This is yet another category that we instantly change when we gain control of the back. Every single back we control will have the same amount of “vision†regardless of this preset rating. What determines the outcome is the half-backs raw ability to take it to the house.
3. Lesser of elusiveness/trucking- It’s just plain silly to have a 98 elusive back with 97 trucking. The game will always choose the higher rated animation. It’s virtually (pun intended) useless to have a back rated high in each area. Give me one back with a super rating in one of the category’s and then give me more elsewhere!
